Flora A. Weaver of Niceville, Florida, died peacefully at home on Thursday, 23 December 2021, a few days after her 95th birthday, following a valiant struggle with progressive dementia. She is in the arms of our Lord and is reunited with her husband and sweetheart of 67 years, Richard E. Weaver. She was attended by her daughters and son in law, Julie A. Staats, Mary F. Benson, and Lee Benson.

She was born on the 19th of December 1926, Flora Anne Stence, in Heckton, Pennsylvania, to Mary W. (formerly McCarty) and Walter R. Stence. Flora grew up in Fishing Creek Valley, just north of Harrisburg, attending a one-room schoolhouse with her little brother Lewis “Buddy” Stence. She graduated William Penn High School and also the Harrisburg Polyclinic Nursing School, as a Registered Nurse for the US Cadet Nurse Corps during WW ll. During her last year of nursing school, she met her lifelong love, Richard E. Weaver, at a soda shop “in town”.

Richard joined the Army Air Corps, and they embarked on a 20-year USAF career, living in North Dakota, Delaware, Alabama, New Foundland, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Hawaii, Cape Cod and back to Pennsylvania, making lifelong friends, raising four children, collecting livestock and several pets along the way. They retired from the USAF in 1971 and built a home in Fishing Creek Valley, Pa., where Flora grew up.

Flora was a kind, loving, and humble soul with a generous sense of humor.  She worked as a nurse in continuum until she retired at the age of sixty-five. She also cared for her grandmother, her parents and Richard’s mother at the end of their lives. The daughter of a Lay preacher, Flora served the Lord her entire life, sustaining a legacy over four generations of caretakers for the Heckton UMC, until its decommissioning and appointment as a historical landmark in Fort Hunter, Pa.

Flora is survived by her four children and descendants:  Richard A. Weaver and spouse Cynthia of Harrisburg, PA; Julie A. Staats of Niceville; Mary F. Benson and spouse Lee Benson of Niceville; Wendy Meehan and spouse Vincent Meehan, of Fort Ashby, WV. Grandchildren include Richard L. Weaver, Jessica Hennion, Aubrey Scrodin, Victor Moten Jr, Erica Bellamy, Chase Weaver, Patrick Moten, Melanie Meehan, Olivia Meehan, Bryndon Weaver, and Aleise Weaver.
