Filomena “Phyllis” Chiodo, 92, died Sunday, March 13, 2022 at MorningStar Senior Living at Jordan Creek. Phyllis was born November 12, 1929 in Des Moines to Joseph and Carmella (Stellata) Raymond. Phyllis worked at Powers Bakery, Rollins Hosiery Mill, and A&P Grocery Store in her early years, then met the love of her life, Frank Chiodo. Together they worked the family produce farm. Her love and passion for her children and grandchildren were through cooking, baking and sharing many meals. Phyllis’ generosity went beyond her family, as she cared for friends, employees of Chiodo Gardens, and care givers. Phyllis was known for her sense of humor and taught many life lessons to her children and grandchildren, – “a promise was a promise; you meant what you said, and did what you said you would do; and you respected your elders, and everyone you meet.”

Survivors include her children: Mary Chiodo, Rose (Ed) Chiodo, Tony (Stormie) Chiodo; grandchildren: Maria Knutson, Vincenzo Knutson, Nicole Boyd, Brittany Chiodo, Adam, Tara and Amanda Olaby; great grandchildren: A.J. and Lilly Boyd.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents; siblings: Rose Pappian, Lucy Palazzo, Louise Pascale, Antoinette Fasano, Carmella Jaquinta, Margaret Riccio, Mary Rife, Josephine Graffeo, Julia Love, Frank Raymond, Jim Raymond, and Tony and Joe in infancy.

The family would like to thank the staff of MorningStar Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care, allowing Phyllis to live her last days with grace and dignity.
