Fernande “Fern” Y. (Chateauvert) O’Donnell of Midland Michigan passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the age of 94. She was a remarkable woman that will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The daughter of the late Denys and Clarina Chateauvert, and one of 12 children, Fern was born on March 4, 1921 in Quebec City, Quebec. When Fern was 7 years old, her father moved the family to Detroit. Married for nearly 40 years to the late Stephen F. O’Donnell, Jr., Fern is survived by her daughter Kathleen O’Donnell Dolan; her sons Steve (Carol), Michael (Elizabeth) and Richard (Alice); twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Fern was active in multiple charitable services wherever she lived (Detroit, Mount Clemens, Port Sanilac and Midland, MI). She drove as a volunteer for Cancer Services for many years, supported the Midland Special Olympics and The Arc of Midland. She received the “Thousand Points of Light” award from former President George H. Bush for her volunteer efforts.
Fern loved to travel, enjoyed golf and bowling, and had a passion for crossword puzzles. But most especially, she loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren.
Any and all who were fortunate to cross her path would definitely say that she was a generous, warm and caring woman. We are all so blessed to have had Fern in our lives.
