Fern Patterson Nelson
Fern Patterson Nelson, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister passed away on January 30, 2014 from causes incident to age.
Fern was born on June 16, 1929 in Roy, Utah, daughter of John Alexander Patterson and Fern Alberta Nielsen Patterson. She was the oldest of 9 children, she had 7 sisters and 1 brother; Faun Lyman (her twin), Betty Calvert, Kathryn Stark, Mary Guiver, June Johnson, Fae Patterson, Patsy Patterson, and John Alexander Patterson Jr. She is survived by 3 sisters – Betty, Kathryn and Fae, 3 children, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
On July 11, 1951, she married John Madison Nelson. They were married for 27 years. While married, they traveled all over the world as John was in the U.S. Air Force. They had 3 children; Shila Fern Weese, Alicia Kay Murphy (David) and John Michael Nelson (Asel).
After returning to Utah, she obtained a job at Clearfield State Bank and worked there until she retired. She then worked part time at Burton-Lyman Tax Office helping to prepare tax returns.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions over the years. Fern loved to knit crochet and do hardanger. She donated many knitted hats to poor children throughout the world.
