Fern Lomayesva Luna, died early morning, August 6, 2008. She died of heart and lung complications.
Mrs. Luna was born in Oraibi, Arizona in 1932. Raised in Kykotsmovi Arizona, later moved to The Indian Camps at Bellemont Arizona. From the Indian Camps she was bussed into Flagstaff to attend Emerson Elementary, Flagstaff Jr. High and Flagstaff High School.
Mrs. Luna was employed at EZ Mills textiles as Quality Control Supervisor. She then moved on to work for WL Gore and Associates, till her retirement.
While living in Bellemont, she met her husband to be, Juan P. Luna, married August 3, 1949.Mrs. Luna loved cooking for her family. She told many stories of growing up at The Indian Camps and living in small quarters with her family. She is also very recognized by the many natives that also lived at the Hopi and Navajo Indian Camps in Bellemont. Nephews and nieces loved hearing numerous humorous stories of childhood family stories.
She is survived by daughter: Juanita Macias (Pete), sons: Juan P. Luna Jr. (Josephine), Michael G. Luna, family friend Fred Lloyd. Grandchildren: Kerri Sobolowski (Aaron), Karen Gettemy (Daniel), Peter Macias, Philippe Luna, Alejandro Luna, Diego Luna. Great grandchildren: Samia Gettemy, Nathaniel and Karli Sobolowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Juan “Johnny” Luna. Eight brothers and sisters: Reuben, Jonathon, Fred, Walden Lomayesva. June Smith, Bernice Lujan, Ruth Paisano and Myra Davilla.
“She is a woman of strength and dignity, and has no fear of old age. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything she says. She watches carefully all that goes on throughout her household, and is never lazy. Her children stand and bless her.” Proverbs 31; 25-28.
