Fern L. Parry, 95, of Nampa, died peacefully in her sleep on September 28, 2022. Fern was born on March 2, 1927, at home to David Howard Van Houten and Clara Van Houten at Midway, a small farming community between Nampa and Caldwell. Fern was the youngest of three children. Her brother and sister would tease her that she had been born in a barn, as the home had been originally a barn. Her early years were spent on that small acreage. A neighbor girl, Jean Duspiva Fisher and Fern were born six months apart and became life-time friends, they spent years together with their parents at the Nampa Valley Grange. They called themselves “The Grange Babies”. The family moved to Nampa in 1935, where she attended school. She met Phyllis Stone McLellan in the fifth grade and became lifelong friends also. In her sophomore year at Nampa High, a new student, Delbert Parry, caught her eye and she asked him the Sadie Hawkins Dance. They dated through high school. Delbert graduated in l944, entered the Navy, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. She remained committed to her Delbert and graduated from Nampa High in l945.
Fern is survived by her children, Diane Hohrein (Ed) of Lincoln City, Oregon, Dennis Parry (Katie) of Nampa, and three grandsons, Brian Hohrein (Molly), Prescott Arizona, David Parry (Kellie), Salem, Oregon, and Samuel Parry (Kelsey), Boise. Also, five great-grandchildren, Madelyne and Sophia Hohrein, Grace and Ethan Parry and Cooper Parry.
