Fergus M. B. Moylan, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 23, 2021 at the age of seventy-six after a hard-fought battle against Glioblastoma. He was the loving husband of Kristine (Kennefick); loving father of Aislin Moylan of West Roxbury, Cliff Moylan of Manhattan, NY, Chelsea Malcolm (Andrew) of Acton, Trevor Moylan of Medford, stepfather of Abigail Duhamel of Dorchester. Affectionately known as “Gran’Pa” to Honora, Ava, Quin, Skylar and Summer. He is survived by his siblings Mary Gilroy of Dublin, Ireland, Oliver Moylan of Ennis, Ireland, Elizabeth Coen of Galway, Ireland. He was predeceased by his siblings Breda Moylan, MD, Donough Moylan, MD, Dolores Gardiner and Fr. John Moylan all of Ireland. Fergus was born in Dublin, Ireland to Hanora and Dr. Patrick Moylan; grew up in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland in the lovely family home on Bindon Street. He attended lower school in Ennis at Miss O’Flaherty’s school and Christian Brothers; attended boarding high school for 6 years at Clongowes Wood College. He then went off to University College Cork where he studied pre-medicine and graduated with a degree in medical studies. In December 1968, Fergus left Ireland and came to the US where he did his first internship at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit; followed by residencies in pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. He came to Boston in 1971 where he was a senior pediatric resident at Mass General Hospital leading him to be the first clinical fellow in pediatric intensive care at the hospital. He then went to Tufts/New England Medical Center where he was the Associate director of Neonatology and later became the Chief of Pediatric Intensive Care. In 1986 Fergus came to Plymouth and practiced pediatrics with the Plymouth Medical Group until his retirement. During the last 10 years of his medical practice, Dr. Moylan made the commitment to educate himself in the specialty area of child/adolescent psychopharmacology allowing him to provide much needed care to many young people in his community. He served on staff at the Jordan Hospital Birth Place where he helped with high-risk deliveries.Fergus was an avid reader of Irish authors and poets, especially Oscar Wilde; lover of classical music; enjoyed movies and almost everything on PBS. He travelled the world and carried his love and pride of Ireland wherever he went. Good food, good wine and cheese, good company were things he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an active golfer and swimmer; proud member of Sandwich Hollows Golf Club, the Kingsbury Club, Eel River Beach Club; active communicant of St. Peter’s Church; former member of The Harvard Club where he was known to play a mean game of squash. He loved spending time walking the beach and swimming in the warm Florida water. He was a wonderfully kind, funny, intelligent, witty man who will be greatly missed. His parting words to all, “I have had a rich life. Thank you, it has been a privilege”.
