Felipe Silva Gomez, 85, of Hurley passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Las Cruces surrounded by his family.

Felipe was born in Rodey, New Mexico to Simon and Francisca Gomez. He was a humble and faithful servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his choir and music ministry, jail ministry, church boy scouts, lector, Eucharistic Minister, Cursillista, and Knights of Columbus. Felipe is best known for his love of God, his family and his country. His favorite past time was to play his guitar and sing to his grandchildren.

He loved to read, his favorite books were history based novels. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all fishing and hunting with his sons, grandsons, brother and brothers-in-law. He also loved to dance with his wife, daughters and granddaughters. In his youth, he was a boy scout, boxer and basketball player. He valued hard work and providing for his family. He worked for the Santa Rita Company Store, Hurley Store, Bailey’s Food Basket, Chino Mines and Burns Security. He retired in 1990 from Chino Mines.

Felipe is survived by his wife, Mary Marin Gomez of 67 years; brother, Ramon Gomez; sister, Elsie Garcia; daughters and sons, Irene Gomez, Cathy and Julio Dominguez, Elmo and Charlene Gomez, Phillip James Gomez; grandchildren, Keith Placencio, Minerva Sandoval, Erica Melendrez, Cathy Ann Dominguez-Goodwin, Sandra Dominguez, Julie Coker, Bianca Piscoya, Anthony Gomez, Andria Gomez, Annabelle Gomez and Nathaniel Gomez; 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bertha Nañez, Juanita Castañeda and his grandson Andrew Felipe Gomez.
