Faye Stewart, May 16, 1921 – October 22, 2018.
Laura “Faye” Shaw Stewart passed away Monday, October 22 in a Conroe hospital. Born on May 16, 1921, Faye was a lifelong resident of Bell County having been born in Rogers, Texas and graduated from Rogers High School. Following high school she attended Texas Women’s University in Denton and then moved to Belton with her family. Faye married James Stewart on May 14, 1943. During WWII while Jimmy was overseas Faye worked in the Bell County court house and after his return they opened Stewart’s Drugs in downtown Belton. They closed the drug store after the birth of their 2 children. When her children were in school she returned to The University of Mary Hardin Baylor to complete her degree. She taught for many years on Ft Hood where she helped soldiers get their GED.
Faye was a long time member of The First United Methodist Church in Belton where she served as Director of Vacation Bible School, a youth sponsor, a lay leader, a representative to the annual conference for many years and taught Sunday school. She was a member of United Methodist Women and of Serendipity Set, a reading and discussion group.
Faye was a member of the Belton Women’s Wednesday Club holding many offices including President. She was a member of P.E.O. and Mended Hearts. She served as a “Yellow Bird” at Scott and White Hospital for many years. Faye was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Texas Revolution.
She was a founding member of a small prayer group that met weekly for over 25 years. Her faith and prayers were an inspiration to the members of that group and help to all she lifted in prayer.
She was known for her strong faith in God, her warm hospitality, her kindness to everyone, her loving spirit, and her much loved “high heels”.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband James Stewart in 2007 and grandson Tsgt James Stewart,IV in 2008. She is survived by a son James Stewart, Jr and wife Kay, a daughter Janet Stewart Kendall and partner Donna, a grandson Chad and his wife Melissa, a granddaughter Jett and her husband John, and 5 great grandchildren Drew, Ty, Haydin, Jodi, Stevie.
