Faye Eleanor Brown Scott was born on March 13, 1939, in Hill City, Kansas, the seventh child of Neil D. Brown and Annabell Green Brown. The family moved to Wichita, KS in 1944. This is where Faye graduated from North High School in 1957. She married Ivan W. Scott on September 8, 1957 and shortly thereafter moved to Baltimore, Maryland. From this union two children were born. Ivan Jr. (Tony) and Kimberly. She became a young widow in 1970. To support her young family she worked at Rosewood State Hospital. She later attended the Community College of Baltimore, receiving an Associates of Arts degree in Psychology. She moved to Denver in 1977, to be near her aging parents. She worked at Home Instead In-Home Health Care from June 2005 until November 2011, receiving employee of the month in November 2005 and also in November 2008. Raised in a Christian household, Faye also showed interest in the Buddhist and Islamic religions. Faye later returned to the Christian faith and joined Shorter A.M.E.
