Fay Lou (Guenther) Feeney, 89, of Peru, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Feeney was born on April 7, 1927 in Spring Valley to Carl and Blanche (Cleer) Guenther. She married Jean Smith Feeney on June 12, 1954 at the First Congregational Church in LaSalle. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington with a bachelor’s degree in music and education.
She retired as an elementary school teacher with over 33 years of service from LaSalle Public Grade School and Dimmick Grade School. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru, St. Margaret’s Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Oglesby Elks Club. Fay enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, reading, knitting, crocheting, collecting antiques and wintering in Arizona. She is survived by her husband, Jean of Peru; one son, Jon (Deb) Feeney of Dalzell; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kelly Phelps; two great-grandchildren, Addison Sherman and Deacon Phelps; one brother, William (Irene) Guenther of Peru; 4 nieces and 5 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Fusinetti.Pallbearers will be Kyle Phelps, Nick Brown, Nick Affelt, Chris Affelt, Brian Fusinetti and Jeff Fusinetti.
