Fay Sharon Greenland Campbell – Beloved wife of the late Brewster (Bruce) Phillips Campbell, Jr. passed away in her Cocoa Beach, FL home on July 28, 2018. A native of Norfolk, VA, Fay was valedictorian of her Granby High School class. She studied Romance languages at Longwood College (BA), the University of Florida (MA), and UC Berkeley, doing field work in Puerto Rico and Mexico. She applied her skill with languages in her work with the US embassy in Paris, as a philologist for the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) in Nairobi, and as a teacher of French and Spanish.
Fay and Bruce retired to the Space Coast in 1999, first in Suntree and then Cocoa Beach. Fay loved the night sky, and was awed by space exploration. She loved watching rocket launches and taking her grandchildren to Kennedy Space Center. She was an avid supporter of the Space Coast Symphony. Her love of dogs and civic-mindedness were channeled into advocacy for a dog park. And she loved the Atlantic Ocean, and got great joy from being at the beach.
She was an intrepid traveler, making sure her children appreciated the world, its beauty and its people. She was remarkable at keeping in touch with people throughout the years, and maintained many cherished friendships that spanned continents and lifetimes.
Fay had an extraordinary ability to navigate through suffering and find joy in any circumstances. She overcame the challenges of a difficult upbringing, and physical pain in her closing years, not dwelling on ugliness or setbacks, but ever cheerful and grateful for the blessing bestowed upon her.
Survivors include her children, Brewster and Sharon, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her beloved cousin, Ken, brother-in-law, Cecil, sister-in-law, Natalie, Goddaughter Betsy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
