Known to Everyone as “Nana,” Fay Elaine Mears was born on July 17, 1934 in North Branch NY to Grace and Melvin Wood. She was the eldest of 10 children, 9 girls and 1 boy. She departed this life on Friday April 23, 2021. Fay was a graduate of Delaware Valley High School. She married her husband John Mears of 68 years on November 27, 1952. They had 4 children Debra Miller, Jonathan Mears, Patti Jane Weickum and James Mears. Fay was a member and accountant of the Methodist church in Livingston Manor. She was an active member and treasurer of the Senior Citizens of Livingston Manor, an avid bowler at Liberty Lanes and loved to go square dancing. More importantly she worked as a teacher’s aid at Livingston Manor Central School for 30 plus years. She touched many lives throughout the years and even after retiring continued to donate her time and assist in the classroom 2 days a week. “Her dedication to LMCS and its children was truly greatly appreciated, and she was commended for her smile, even temperament, positivity and her willingness to make any adjustments necessary for the betterment of the student.” Even after assisting in the classroom became too difficult, she continued making Christmas stockings for the LMCS kindergarteners right up to the 2020 holiday season. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

She was predeceased by her brother Arnold Wood, Sister Shirley Barney, daughter Patti Jayne Weickum, son-in law John Miller, and grandson in law Edward Krause

 

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband, children, son in law Charles Weickum Jr, daughter in law Rena Mears, grandchildren: Nicole Park(spouse Michael Park), Amanda Krause, Jessica Mall (spouse Jonathon Mall), Jennifer Bull (spouse Timothy Bull), Charles Weickum 3rd, Elizabeth Weickum, Circe Mears, Ian Mears, Ariel Mears, Daniel Bertholf (spouse Suzzette Bertholf), Aaron Bertholf (spouse Shannon Bertholf), Joseph Bertholf and her beloved great grandchildren.
