Fannie Ann Stephens transitioned on December 26, 2021 in Washington, DC.  Fannie was the daughter of the late Mr. Coy Sherman Lea and Mrs. Helen Poole Lea.

Being raised in Caswell County, she attended Caswell County Training School, graduating with the class of 1956.  She also attended Rutgers University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  She had a endearing career in the Newark, NJ Public Schools as a Teacher Assistant, with the majority of her career at Morton Street School.  She retired from the school system on June 17, 1999.  After retirement she moved to Virginia and then relocated to North Carolina.  She was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she served as a Usher and was a member of the Missionary Auxuillary.

She leaves loving and lasting memories with her daughter, Tiwana Stephens; two sons, Rex Stephens (Angelina) and Randy Stephens; ten grandchildren; Nekira, Tatiana, Keon, Latasha, LaToya, Blake, Tiffany, Brittany, Jamal and Juwan; and numerous great grandchildren;  sister in laws, Nannie Lea, Corrine Lea and Lucy Lea; brother-in-law: Andrew Murray; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband James Carlton Stephens; a son: Sherman Stephens and siblings, George Wallace Lea, Coy Sherman Lea Jr., Elsie Jeanette Lea Murray, Jerry C. Lea and Carl David Lea.
