F. Nadine Lounsberry, 98, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Passavant Area Hospital.

She was born December 8, 1911, near Arenzville, the daughter of Alex and Myrtle Davis Huffman. She married Edwin C. Lounsberry on July 6, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church in Virginia, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2002.

She is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, including Elizabeth Thomas of Virginia; and caretakers Nancy McGee and Pat Hartz, both of Winchester. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Ruth in infancy and Mary Meyer.

Mrs. Lounsberry was a graduate of Virginia Community High School and received her B.S. in Primary Education from Western Illinois University. She was a teacher for 37 years, teaching at Springer Country School, which was a one-room schoolhouse, in Cass County-Dist. 47, Pekin Lincoln School, and Columbia (Hammond, IN) School, where she taught for 27 years, retiring in 1974.

In 1956, after moving to Homewood, Nadine was one of twelve people who started a new Methodist church, holding the position of Choir Director from 1959-74. St. Andrew’s UMC is still a thriving congregation. She and her husband moved to Jacksonville in 1976, where she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Jane Miller Circle and the Handwork Group. She sang in her church choirs for over 50 years. She also belonged to the Morgan/Cass Farm Bureau, Audubon Society, and the Morgan County Home Extension.
