Evelyn Yvonne Canterbury, 76 of Nampa, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at a Nampa hospital.
Evelyn was born March 10, 1940 at Caldwell, Idaho to Kenneth and Leona (Case) Van Matre. She attended various grade schools in Adrian and Nyssa, Oregon, and Greely, Colorado. Her family moved to south Nampa where she attended high school graduating from Nampa High in 1958. Evelyn made lifelong friendships with her high school classmates, loved attending her class reunions and continued to enjoy their monthly reunion luncheons.
Evelyn married Benny Canterbury on February 11, 1962 in Nampa and together they had two children, Mike and Lisa. Evelyn raised the children and worked at various places such as Western Auto and Hehr Manufacturing while Benny drove truck. When the kids grew up and left the nest, Benny taught Evelyn how to drive a semi and off they went. She loved every minute of it! They retired in 2004 and settled back in Nampa.
Evelyn was a very gifted artist, cook, and conversationalist. She loved to play games of all kinds and enjoyed being social with her dear friends, her children & grandchildren and their friends. Evelyn’s company was enjoyed by all ages. Her optimistic attitude was truly inspiring, no matter what hardships she encountered, Evelyn never complained and was grateful for all of her blessings.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Benny; her parents; her sisters, LaVerna (Eldon) Hunter and Karen (Gordon) Nutt; her grandson, Ben Canterbury; and her niece, Angela Nutt Collins.
