Evelyn V. McAfee Higgins, 89, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1924 in Cambridge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harvey O. and Jennie (Cramblett) Hayes. Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Birthday Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen E. McAfee on Aug. 1, 1975, whom she married Oct. 16, 1943; and second husband Paul M. Higgins on Jan. 17, 1989, whom she married Feb. 24, 1979. Survivors include four daughters, Connie West of San Antonio, Texas, Sue (David) Westphal of Salem, Luann (Rick) Lippiatt of Salem and Glena (Charles) Frederick; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara R. Cole; son-in-law, Larry T. West; sister, Wilma Johnson; and brothers, Elmer, Cecil, Lindy, Wilbur and Russell Hayes.
