Evelyn Smith Gwyn of 775 Motor Road went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her family and close friends. She was born in Winston-Salem on January 12, 1946 to the late Margretta Stover. Evelyn attended Carver Crest Elementary School and Paisley High School. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she participated in the D. Everett Bible Study and was past president of the Carrie Flippen Missionaries. Evelyn was previously employed by Western Electric/AT&T until it closed. Later she attended Pyramid Barber School and became a licensed barber and beautician. She continued in this profession until her health started failing.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her step-father, James Stover, Sr.
Left to cherish her precious memories is her devoted husband of 48 years, Cornell Gwyn, Sr.; granddaughters, Shanta Carter and Jazzlyn Gwyn; grandsons, Willie Johnson, Jr. and Travionne Johnson; daughter-in-law, Vickie Gwyn and a host of other family and friends. The family is very grateful to the staff of Novant Health who took care of Evelyn over the years.
