Mrs. Portlock peacefully passed away at her residence in Fairfield, California.
Evelyn Portlock, affectionately called “Ev”, was born January 26, 1922 in
Haynesville, LA to loving parents, Edmond and Frances Buggs. She was the eldest sibling of two sisters, Audrey and Alma and brother, Detroit. In the early 1940’s, her family moved to San Diego, CA. Shortly afterwards, Evelyn and her family joined Mt.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Ernest Portlock, a cool, handsome, sax playing soldier of the United States Army Air Corps in 1945. They were later united in marriage. Their union was blessed with four sons, Charles, James, Gerald and Steven and one daughter, Ernyn. In 1963, her husband relocated the family to San Francisco, CA to expand his work in the construction business. Evelyn worked in the medical field, nursing private patients. She retired in 2007 at the age of eighty-five.
Evelyn loved her family very much and was proud of them just as they were of her. She was the “Queen of Hospitality.” She always welcomed family and friends to her home, where she would “roll out the red carpet for them” and made each one feel special and loved. She was an excellent chef of southern cuisine. All of her family and friends were anxious to taste her delicious creations.
Evelyn and her husband, Ernest both shared a wonderful quality of drawing young people to them, especially their nieces and nephews. Evelyn had a kind heart. She was very generous, whatever she had, she loved to share with others. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will always have a special place in the hearts of those who truly knew and loved her. She will be missed by all.
Evelyn Portlock departed this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Fairfield, CA with her loving family at her side.
