Evelyn Orlina Harrison, 88 of Climax, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016. It is with great sorrow that we lost Gorgeous Grandma to a massive heart attack. Evelyn was the daughter of Oakley and Rose (Kautman) Hazen and was born in Mt. Hope, WI on August 7, 1927. She was a feisty amazing woman. She loved feeding the squirrels weekly and would purchase crackers to feed them. She also collected owls and had hundreds of them. She even wanted to be cremated and buried in an owl which will be done. She loved the American Legion and was a life member. She was proud of the fact that she was bartender there for many years.
She had many stories and one was that she was a Rosie Riveter during WWII. She worked in an ammunitions factory. She looked forward to her Climax Crescent and was adamant about getting it as soon as possible. She was really excited when the baseball season started so she could see her beloved Tigers, which she did last Friday. Evelyn was united in marriage to David “Bud” Harrison on March 17, 1945, who sadly preceded her in death on September 20, 1986. Evelyn is survived by her 4 sisters, Anna Delp, Dee(Vern) Helle, Margaret Arand, and Jo (Tom) Horvorka. She is also survived by 3 daughters, Diane (Bob) Freeland of Battle Creek, Eilene Harrison of Kalamazoo and Jennifer (Dennis) Goldsmith of Swanton, OH; a step-son, David Steinecker of Chicago, IL; daughter-in-law Marlene Harrison of Climax; and son-in-law, Steve Yerby of Pine Lake; and numerous grand and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; son, Frosty Harrison; sister, Lila Grindey and infant sister, Teresa Hazen; her parents; and brothers-in-law, Richard Delp, Sonny Grindey and George Arand.
