Evelyn was born Evelyn Edith Roberts on September 11, 1926 in Drake’s Broughton, England to William and Ellen Roberts. Evelyn was the 9th of 12 children, 10 surviving childhood. She was the youngest daughter, independent and stubborn to the end. She told many happy childhood stories of playing with her brothers in the fields and hedge rows in rural England.
Evelyn left school at the tender age of 14 as all able bodied people were mobilized to support the World War II war effort. Evelyn worked in factories as the men were absent at war. The family lived on rations and her father joined the war effort by planting vegetables, fruit and herbs in his garden.
In 1944, the war brought a young Yank to Britain, Robert Louis Mulder. Bob and Evelyn met and were married June 16, 1945. Evelyn boarded a ship and followed Bob to the United States, arriving in New York in March 1946. Evelyn had traveled with other “War Brides”. She then boarded a train and arrived in Boise on April 1, 1946.
Bob and Evelyn settled in Boise and raised four children; Rodney, Saundra, Gordon and Robin. Evelyn continued her friendships with her “War Brides Club” until she became the last surviving member.
On Saturday morning, May 25, 2019, Evelyn had her last cup of tea, reassured Bob that she would be just fine and gained her wings.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Bob, four children, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and her brother Gordon Roberts in the United Kingdom.
