Evelyn Mae Shafer, 97, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. Evelyn was born February 1, 1925, in Dallas County, to Lawrence and Mildred (Shanks) Greif, Sr. She married Jack Shafer on July 3, 1943. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Dallas Center Woman’s Club for 30+years, Iowa Cattle Women, William Wagner Questers, and was a Living History Farms Volunteer. After her husband’s passing, she enjoyed dancing at Lake Robbin’s Ballroom.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Alice (Ronald) Wicker, C. Edward (Theresa) Shafer, both of Grimes, and Mary (Steve) Crowe of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Denise) Wicker of Shawnee, KS, Brandie Wicker of Grimes, Janey Shafer of Grimes, Jacqueline (David) Thompson of Dallas Center, Matt (Jessi) Shafer of Grimes, Stephanie (Wes) Warnhoff of Columbia, MO, and Emily (Jared) Barbee of Chesterfield, MO; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Rachael, Danielle, Zach, Sam, Nick, Jackson, Kyle, Claire, Tyler, Charlie, Alex, Anna, Nick, Nathan, Katie, Maddie, and Zoe; great-great-granddaughter, Addison; and her sister, Betty Nixon of Granger. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack, her brothers, Richard, Jr., Bill, and Ralph Greif, and her sisters, Nancy Seifker, Ruby Houghtaling, and Katherine Steffens.
