On Monday, December 1, 2014, God called one of His Great Women home.  The late Ms. Evelyn Madeline Jones (a.k.a. EL EL) was born to Walter and Isabella Scott Jones on August 1, 1941 in Lawrence County, AL.  She confessed Christ at an early age at Little Sam’s M.B. Church in Town Creek, AL while under the leadership of The Reverend Coleman.  Little Sam’s name was later changed to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  She later became a member of Westside M.B. Church in Decatur, AL under the leadership of Reverend George A. Smith where she remained until her health failed her.

Evelyn was a graduate of Courtland High School.  She was employed with Decatur City Schools and provided them with 20 years of service.  She was loved by the students and teachers.  Ms. Jones later became a foster grandparent for Community Action Partnership in Decatur, AL.

She was preceded in death by:  her husband and companion, Alexander Kirk; father, Walter Jones; mother, Isabella Scott Jones; brothers, Walter Jones, Jim Mack Jones, Cater Jones, Howard Jones, and Sylvester Jones; sisters, Mary Allen, Martha Harris, Eva Alexander, Ida Jones, and Fannie Mitchell; her step-daughter Lenora Kirk; step-son, Billy Kirk; grand-son, Davion Farrar, and her special niece Eve Mae Jones.

Ms.  Jones leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Sandra Jones Gilbert, Kathy Jones, Susie Jones; two step-daughters, Janice Mosely and Carolyn Bell; five step-sons, Ronald Kirk, Calvin Kirk, Jackie Kirk, Larry Kirk, and Max Kirk all of Decatur, AL; five grand-children, Candra Gilbert, Tremayne Gilbert, Akira Jones, Rakeem Jones and Rakelle Jones all of Decatur, AL; two great-grandchildren, Tremayne Gilbert Jr. and Ellianna Jones all of Decatur, AL; two brothers, Willie E. Jones (Emma) of Decatur, AL and Willie B. Jones (Ida) of Muscle Shoals, AL; Special friends, Johnny Pointer, Gloria Jones, Stanley Wiggins, M. Jean Crutch, and Laquita Billings and a host of step great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
