On the evening of Tuesday, July 6th, 2021, Evelyn “Louise” Smith, 82, of Galesburg, answered God’s call home while comforted by family.
Louise was born in Brownsville, TN, on November 10, 1938, to Dupree and Lue Lillie (Bond) Smith. Louise is survived by four brothers: Charles (Virgie) Smith and Tommy Smith of Topeka, KS, Ollie Roy Smith of Galesburg, and Robert Smith of Bloomington, IL; her two sons, LeVoy Smith (Irene) of Dixon, IL, and Timothy Smith (Stacy Albert) of Galesburg; two daughters, Debbie Smith and Patricia Smith of Galesburg; ten grandchildren: Trevor, David, Nathaniel, Matthew, Alicia, Jason, Quinton, Brett, Seth, and Kortez; and several great grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Gregory D. Smith, two brothers, James and J.C. Smith, and her only sister, Mary Ella Smith.Louise was employed at Harbor Lights, Gale Product, and Jumers Continental Inn while raising her five children. She also participated in numerous church functions as a choir member of Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. In her spare time, Louise enjoyed yard sales, reading and writing, and catching up on her soaps. However, her passion was cooking her signature dishes with the perfect amount of southern creativity, love, and explosive flavor.
Louise will be forever remembered and missed for her containable selflessness (whether it was raising her grandchildren in times of emergencies or regularly checking in on family and friends), her phenomenal ability to remember exact dates and events, her contagious laugh, and infectious personality.
