Evelyn L. Wessel of Carlyle died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese at the age of 78 years. She was born in Carlyle on December 4, 1930 the daughter of Theodore and Leonora (Hollenkamp) Schulte. On August 14, 1954 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois Evelyn married Gilbert Wessel and he preceded her in death on November 21, 1990.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters: Amy Haar and husband Larry of Beckemeyer and Cynthia Knolhoff and husband Kevin of Carlyle; a son: Bryan Wessel and wife Julie of Carlyle; a sister: Shirley VanDorn of Ellisgrove, Illinois; five grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.Evelyn was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle. Evelyn was retired but had worked at the Wee Walker Shoe Company, Seiffert’s Meat Processing and Locker, and Bill and Bob’s Drive In- all in Carlyle. She enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
