Evelyn Harriet (Hanson) Cameron, 98, of Middletown died February 6, 2020 surrounded by her family and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Scotty Cameron.  Evelyn was born in Middletown on September 24, 1921 to the late Adolph Leonard Hanson and Harriet (Stannard) Hanson.  A 1938 graduate of Middletown High School, Evelyn played basketball during her high school years and continued to enjoy watching UCONN basketball, as well as, the WNBA during her retirement.  After graduating, Evelyn took a position with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Hartford, CT.  After her marriage to Archie (Scotty) Cameron, in 1947, the couple moved to Portland, CT returning to Middletown in 1959 with their children where they resided until their passing.  Evelyn went on to work at the Middletown Board of Education, in addition to being a census taker. Her next move was to Mancib Company/EIL where she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Evelyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as, the Middletown chapter of AARP, enjoying many AARP sponsored bus trips with Scotty.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert Cameron and his wife, Pamela of Higganum and daughter Nancy Malick and her husband, David of Manchester and Florida.  Also, two grandsons, Daniel Malick and his wife, Deirdre of Portland and Connor Malick and his wife, Vianca of Manchester.  Evelyn also leaves four step-grandchildren, Richard Atkinson, Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Westbrook, Penni Williams of Nashville, Shawn Atkinson and his wife, Alyssa of Ivoryton, and Aaron Atkinson; seven step great grandchildren, McKenna and Richard Atkinson, Haley and Hannah Williams, Patrick and Paige Atkinson and Cameron Atkinson, as well as a niece and nephew, Edwin Markham and his wife, Cindy of Florida and Debra Markham of Winston-Salem North Carolina; four great nephews and several cousins.  Besides her husband and parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her sisters, Martha Markham and Virginia Hubner.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Aging Care, LLC and Dora Nanaboamah for their gentle and loving care during the final two years of Evelyn’s life.  Thanks, also goes to the staff at Middlesex Hospital for their caring and concern during the final days of Evelyn’s journey.
