Evelyn G. Thorne Cain, 89 , peacefully went home to be with the Lord at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Marion General Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Roy Kidd and Bertha Gorsline Kidd on January 18, 1925. Evelyn graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, MI in January 1943.She attended Wayne State University and also worked at General Motors Diesel Plant during the war years. On June 1, 1946 she married Clarence L. Thorne in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1975.To this union was born two daughters, Dianne and Paula.

In 1963 Evelyn finished her degree in Elementary Education at Marion College which is now Indiana Wesleyan University. She completed her Master’s degree in 1965 at Ball State University. She taught two years at Fremont School and then moved to Allen Elementary when Marion Community Schools reorganized. She taught first grade at Allen Elementary for 23 years before retirement. December 16, 1979 Evelyn married John Albert Cain. They loved to travel and spend time with the grandchildren. John Albert preceded her in death on May 28, 1992.

Evelyn loved to be active and had many leadership roles in Marion, LaFontaine, and Fairmount. She was a member of Fairmount United Methodist Church and served on many committees. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, mission trips to Jamaica, Haiti, and Oklahoma. She served as president of Speeders at First United Methodist Church, various offices in Marion Retired Teachers Association, and was a District Officer for United Methodist Women. Her Later years were spent at Northwood Manor where she enjoyed games, cards, and entertainment with her many friends. A big thanks to the wonderful caring staff at the Manor through the years.

Evelyn is survived by daughters: Mrs. Diane (Charles) Pack, Fairmount, IN Paula (Dennis) McCutchan, Monticello, IN Grandchildren; Andrew (Jennifer) Pack, Monticello, IN Douglas (Julie) Pack, Ft. Wayne, IN Melinda Pack Warman, Brownsburg, IN Jason(Megan) McCutchan, Brownsburg, IN Julie (Lance) Murray, San Diego, CA Great-Grandchildren; Emily, Joseph, Charles, and AudreyPack, Cheyanne, Madelyne, Sean, & Arya Grace Warman, Travis and Jacob McCutchan.

She was preceded in death by her sister Eileen Rakestraw.
