Evelyn Devine Cook, “Evie,” 68, of Milton, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2015 at her summer home in Prospect Harbor, Maine. 

Evie was born in Westmoreland, New York and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where she graduated from Riviera Beach High School.

She spent over 30 years as an educator and administrator in the Okaloosa County School District.  She taught for many years as an elementary teacher in Crestview and also served as Dean of Students for the middle school at Baker School.  She also enjoyed owning Evie’s Children Shop, a children’s clothing store. 

Her parents, Leonard F. and Evelyn Cecelia Devine, preceded Evie in death.  She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Allen “Sam” Cook; their daughters, Jennifer Hungerford (James), Sabrina Vickers (Justin), and Stacey Cook; her sister Arlene Martin (Mike) and her brother Leonard Devine (Carol).  Survivors also include her grandchildren, Marlena Crisp, Garret Ledwick, Matthew Ledwick, Maeghan Ledwick, Gavin Hungerford, Heidi Hungerford, Hayden Hungerford, Hannah Hungerford, Aidan Vickers and Alex Vickers; and her great granddaughters Hannah Crisp and Haley Crisp.

Evie’s kindness, gentleness, and zest for life were legendary.  She was an avid reader and loved to sew, bake, travel, volunteer and teach at the Schoodic Education & Research Center in Maine, and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Maine held a special place in her heart.
