Evelyn Laura Linkvis Dowell, 92, of Waukee, IA passed away peacefully at her home on June 22, 2021. Evelyn was born in Waterloo, IA on April 8, 1929. She graduated from Diagonal High School and continued to work for Brenton Bank for 30 years while raising a family.
Evelyn was married to the love of her life, Donald Dean Dowell, on April 21, 1948; they were married 66 years before his passing in 2014.
Evelyn enjoyed participating in the Neighborhood Club, Garden Club, and Tuesday Club. She was in leadership roles at Waukee Christian Church, such as Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, and CWF. Further, she was actively involved in volunteering in various local booster clubs.
Evelyn especially enjoyed gardening, yard work, and being outdoors. She was talented in and enjoyed cross stitching, ceramics, and painting. In earlier years she and Don enjoyed square dancing. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Ivan “Ike” Dowell and wife Sherry Dowell of Edmond, OK, Denise Patterson and husband Hal Patterson of Walkerton, IN and Dennis Dowell and wife Marilyn Dowell of Waukee. Her nine grandchildren include Jeff Patterson, Kevin Patterson, Nicole Scott, Erin McMurtrey, Heidi Stan, Tammy Linback, Matthew Dowell, Laura McCauley, and Tyler Patterson. Her great-grandchildren include Camden Linback, Carson McMurtrey, Bexley Stan, Jorie Stan, Crew McCauley, Calvin Dowell, Colin Dowell, and Monroe McCauley She is also survived by her sister, Bernadine Sobotka of Diagonal, and brothers Gene Linkvis of Sioux City and Joe Bailey of Omaha, NE – as well as other extended family members and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Donald Dean Dowell; parents Opal M. Bailey, Cecil Edward Bailey, and Charles Linkvis; brother Robert Linkvis; sister Charlene Brott; and great-grandson Jackson McMurtrey.
