Evalyn “Marie” Berlenbach, age 96, of Silver Ridge Park Westerly, Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away at home on Monday, May 29, 2017. Marie was born in New York City and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The marriage took Marie to Philadelphia, PA; Haddonfield, NJ: Mt. Holly, NJ and Upper Montclair, NJ until retiring to Berkeley Twp. in 1984.

Marie graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, Class of 1942. She worked as a textile technologist for the Army and Navy Textile laboratories in Philadelphia and New York during WWII. Later, Marie attended Patterson State College and worked as an admissions officer at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, NJ, and an operating room coordinator at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Montclair, NJ. Marie served in various organizations: President of the Mt. Holly Regional Catholic School PTA, President of the St. Cassian’s Women’s Auxiliary, Secretary of the Mercier Club of Montclair, Secretary of the Essex Catholic High School Mothers Club, Secretary and Treasurer of the Catholic Daughters of America, Montclair. Marie also volunteered with the Silver Ridge First Aid Squad and Auxiliary and was a member of various clubs in the Silver Ridge community. Marie was a communicant and former Eucharist Minister at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary and Catholic Daughters of America. Marie enjoyed traveling and relaxing with family and friends at the beach. In her earlier days, she enjoyed bowling. She was a veracious reader, a skilled seamstress, fluent at solving crossword puzzles, jumbles, and jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed playing bridge.

Marie was predeceased by her first husband, John J. Fox, who died in January 1976, and her oldest son, John J. Fox, who died in July of 2014.

She is survived by her husband Francis G. Berlenbach; two sons Michael E. and his wife Rosanna Fox of Nashua, NH, and Timothy S. and his wife Barbara Fox of Randolph, NJ; four daughters: Kathleen M. Harper of Ontario, CA, Mary Anne Fox of Parkville, MD, Christine H. Fox of Beachwood, NJ, and Evelyn L. and her husband Stephen Wavrek of Flemington, NJ; a daughter in law Jane Fox of Danville, VA; three stepdaughters Nancy Clark of Springfield, VA, Peggy and her husband William Keenan of Madison, CT and Barbara Hahn of Galloway, NJ; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
