She married the love of her life Jimmy Hernandez in 1963. They grew a life and family together. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Heaven gained an extraordinary woman. Eva was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. To know Eva was to know strength and love. She loved music and would never pass down an opportunity to sing, play the guitar or play the piano. Music was a family affair, her brothers played instruments and her grandchildren sing and play instruments. Her voice was powerful and beautiful as she was. Eva loved to dance with her husband, cook and bake, and would feed everyone at anytime. Her home was always filled with laughter, food and love, and no knocking was necessary because her door was always open.
Eva attended college at WNMU, and received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and then later her Master’s degree. She was an inspiring teacher always incorporating music into teaching. Eva taught at El Grito Headstart for many years, then found herself teaching in Alamo Navajo Community School, where she truly found her calling even though she was quite away from home. Her students adored her and she loved them. Eva touched so many lives on the reservation, not only teaching her student but teaching adult cooking classes. She was a true inspiration. When Eva retired in 2003, she did not slow down at all, she always had a home full of grandchildren.
