Eva Elaine Sanders Toombs, 86, of Greenwood, passed away on the early morning of July 2, 2018. She was born April 21, 1932 in Brookston, IN to Roy Lee and Ura Blanche Hines McKee. Eva grew up with her two sisters in rural Indiana. She attended Round Grove Township Schools in White County, Indiana through the 10th grade. She then attended Otterbein High School in Benton County where she graduated in 1950.
Eva received her nursing degree from Methodist Hospital Wile Hall Nursing School and on December 6, 1954 Eva became a Registered Nurse. She served as a Registered Nurse for nearly 60 years providing loving and tender care. She was a devoted to those she cared for. Early in her career, she worked in obstetrics at Methodist Hospital, but the majority of her time was dedicated to the elderly in nursing homes. For a short period of time, she worked at Isom Elementary School serving lunch as well as working at Meijer in Greenwood.
Eva enjoyed watching The Little League World Series, thoroughbred horse racing at the track, going to yard sales in search of antiques, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, cooking, music of the Big Band era but especially that of Elvis Presley, working in her yard and teaching and participating in Ladies’ Bible classes.
She is survived by her children, Deborah E. Farmer, Michael D. (Maria) Sanders, Roger L. Sanders and Gregory D. (Jennifer) Sanders; 11 grandchildren, Kevan (Debi) Toombs, Keith (Charlotte) Toombs, Mindi Myser, Alicia (Michael) Vermillion, Jill (CJ) Angersbach, Matthew (Katie) Sanders, Mark (Jacy) Sanders, Lorna (Pedro) Rodriguez, Jeffrey Farmer, Molly (Gary) Hook and Stacy Sanders; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Roger D. Sanders; her second husband, Harold H. Toombs; her sisters, Connie Lee Scrimager and Melva Criswell and an infant brother, a brother-in-law, Marvin Ray Criswell and a nephew, Kevin Scrimager.
