Mrs. Eunice S. Shalvoy, 86, of Norwalk, CT, wife of the late Hugh A. Shalvoy, Jr., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 at her home in Norwalk.
Mrs. Shalvoy was born July 16, 1923 in the Cranbury section of Norwalk, the daughter of the late Eunice Blake and Warren L. Shufelt. Through her maternal grandmother, she was a direct descendant of john Gregory, who came to Norwalk in 1651 as one of the original settlers.
She was raised on Chestnut Hill Road. She was a member of one of the last classes to attend elementary school in the one-room Cranbury School, which was built in 1870 by her great-grandfather, John Burwell Gregory. She was also a member of the 1941 graduating class of the East Avenue Norwalk High School.
On October 14, 1944, she married Hugh A. Shalvoy Jr., in Norwalk, CT.
Eunice is survived by her three children: Karen S. Elias of Flanders, NJ, Robert S. Shalvoy of Simpsonville SC, and Richard B. Shalvoy of Cheshire, CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Steven M. Elias of Plainville MA, Kathleen L. Elias of Morris Plains NJ, Anastasia E. Shalvoy of Atascadero, CA, Joanna S. Pfaff of Cheshire, CT and Rebecca J. Shalvoy of Chesire, CT. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Adelaide Glanz of Norwalk,CT and her sons Peter, Steve and Chris Glanz, and by her dear friends Jim and Petra Dobbs and their children Sarah O’Brien and David Dobbs.
