Eugenie (Smith) Roane Shaw, 100, of Middletown, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 6th. Born in Littleton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Mattie (Ashe) Smith. Eugenie was the founder and Executive Director of Portland Housing Authority and her crowning achievements were Chatham Court and Quarry Heights. She is survived by her son, David Roane; two daughters, Geraldine Davidson and Barbara Shaw, all of Middletown; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Eugenie was also predeceased by two husbands, four sons and a brother.
