Whip grew up in Malaga and was a graduated of Clayton HS. He was an accomplished baseball pitcher for Clayton, and it was during that time he was nicknamed “Whip”. Few people actually knew his real name!

Following high school, he worked in the NY Shipyard and then enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during WWII. He was assigned to the Marine Corps as a medic in the Pacific and fought in several Pacific battles, including Okinawa.

Upon his return from the Pacific and having obtained an honorable discharge from service, he traveled the US looking for a college to attend. He ultimately selected the PA Military College PMC, now called Weidner Univ., and earned his degree in Industrial Engineering. During college, he met Marion Yvonne Treasure Waterson of NYC, and they were married in 1949. They started their family is Buffalo, NY, prior to moving to Malaga. They had four sons and three daughters.

Whip began his career in engineering with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. and distinguished himself as an assertive and brilliant engineer. He spent 31 years with DuPont, rising to the ranks of executive management responsible for major corporate projects, acquisitions and engineering design studies. He retired in 1981 and took up his life-long enjoyment of cooking, fishing, crabbing, clamming and enjoying his many close friends and family.

Whip was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons and raised to Master Mason on Sept. 10, 1956. He belonged to the Cloud Lodge #101 and earned his 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite. Whip was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was always active in the Franklinville Post #2071. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Moose in Vineland.

Whip will always be remembered for his uncanny ability to start a discussion, get people arguing and then leave the scene! He was very active in the Iona Lake Sportsman Club and was one of the founders of the Fish-N-Fun Club that began in the 1960’s. He was also famous for never throwing back an undersized flounder or crab. “They are all keepers,” was his motto.

“A Life Well Lived Is Worth Remembering.”
