Eugene R. “Snick” Heider, 90, of Lostant, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Heider was born April 13, 1930 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator to Henry and Louise (Arenz) Heider. He married the love of his life, Phyllis E. Moore on June 2, 1951 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lostant. He was a graduate of Lostant High School and a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Lostant, Lostant American Legion since 1952 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Streator.

He served in the United States Armed Forces and the National Guard. He worked for Grubar Implements and Mueller Funeral Homes, Lostant. He also worked for the Lostant Elevator and then was the manager of the Lostant Fertilizer Plant under seven different ownerships. Together, he and his wife, along with his sister and her husband, started the H & H Tap in Lostant which later became Bullheads.

He was a lifelong Cubs fan and loved gardening. Snick was the happiest when his family was together at his home, which always had an open door policy.Survivors include eight children, Gary (Linda) Heider of Washington, Mary Kay Kozak (friend, Syl Janusick) of Oglesby, Jean (Jim) Gentert of LaSalle, Nancy (Steve) DeRubeis of Wenona, Jacqueline (Max) Actis of Spring Valley, James (Sue) Heider of Oglesby, Robert (Denise) Heider of Tonica and Susanne (Gregg) Humphries of Gilbert, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Heider of Peru; 23 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan (Joyce) Heider of Streator; two sisters, Joann Henderson of Geneseo and Donna Smaling of Bloomington; in-laws, Deanna (Larry) Whiteaker of Ottawa, Bess Moore of Granville, and Marge Moore of Peru, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Phyllis; a son, Ronald Heider; step-grandson, Zachary Humphries; three brothers, Roy Heider, Richard Heider, and Russell Heider; three sisters, Doris Barr, Janet Strode and Maxine Brierly.Pallbearers will be his 16 grandsons, Derek, Brandon, Brock, Blake, Brent, Brooks, Eric, Kyle, Kurt and Michael Heider, Tom and Luke Kozak, Jeff and Brad Gentert and Jeremy and Marcus Camatti.
