Eugene Milon Johnson, 99, recently a resident of the CT Veterans Home in Rocky Hill, CT, passed from this life on June 27, 2015. He was the son of the late John and Leona (MacGowan). He spent his childhood in Vermont and joined the Civilian Conservation Corp after leaving school in the years of the Great Depression, working on public projects in the Green Mountain National Forest and a park in Redding, MA. At the age of 21 he met the girl who would be his loving wife of 48 years, Helen (Sankowski). They married November18, 1937. At that time Eugene worked clearing trees for the power company. In the years immediately following their marriage, a son, Joseph, who resides in Melborne, FL, and a daughter, Eugenia, who resides in Foster, OR, were born. Eugene was a US Navy sailor in World War II and was awarded the American Theatre Metal and the World War 2 Victory Metal.
