Eugene L. Thomas Jr, 73, of Gaithersburg, Maryland departed this life on February 7, 2023, surrounded by family at his home. He was born on May 6, 1949 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Eugene L. and Kathleen Thomas.
Mr. Thomas graduated from Carlisle High School with the Class of 1969 and was a Vietnam Veteran. While in the military he attended the Southern Illinois University with a degree in Healthcare Management.
He and his wife Loretta M. (Owens) Thomas of 52 years were married December 7, 1970 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Eugene L. Thomas Jr. retired from the US Army in 1990 as a First Sergeant/Master Sergeant. After retiring from the military, Eugene Thomas worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, as Senior Administrator for the Department of Medicine. He retired after 21 years of service for a second time in July 2011.
Eugene is survived by his wife Loretta; daughter, Nicole M. Thomas of Washington D.C., and son Eugene L. Thomas, III (Rachel) and granddaughter Maya of Washington, D.C.
Additionally, Eugene is survived by his brother, Mark Thomas (Margie) from Burlington, New Jersey; sisters, Myre Yarbrough (Clarence) of Gaithersburg Maryland, and Cathy Thomas of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
