Geno was born July 9, 1944 in Holton, KS to Helen Conway, while his father Ralph battled it out in Normandy. He was joined by a younger brother Dean nine years later and spent many of his formative years on the farm with family. Gene graduated from Highland Park High in 1962 with his original gang of cronies. He furthered his education at Washburn University playing football and continued on to the University of Kansas where as a member of the ATO fraternity, he decided during his last set of finals he had absolutely no idea what he wanted to do, and that was that. Gene went thru life as a bartender (surviving the Topeka tornado of 1966), restaurant owner, truck driver, general contractor, retiree, high school football coach, novelist, purveyor of bopsical knowledge and somewhere along the line earned the nickname Dr. Conway. No matter what he was doing, his sense of humor, ability to make one fantastic martini and simultaneously quote Hemingway made him the heart and soul of the party.
He must have been doing something right as he is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Jeri E. Conway and his daughter Lauren E. Conway. His mother still lives in Topeka, KS but is proceeded in death by his father Ralph in 1982. He is also survived by an adoring family of in-laws in the Grohs, and LaNoues. The family would like to think the staff at the Scottsdale Health Center on Shea in the 3rd floor wing and the Hospice of the Valley for all their wonderful support and interest in learning random new facts from Dr. Conway when he felt up to smarting off, thanks to their amazing care
Take some time to raise a glass to Gene
