Eugene J. Fichter, 99, of Allentown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021 while in the care of Lehigh Valley Hospice. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Ella (Bauer) Fichter. He was the husband of the late June E. (Dougherty) Fichter, who passed away in 1990. Gene was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1940. He honorably served his country in the United States Army where he was a staff Sergeant in the 99th Infantry Division. He was captured and was a POW during the Battle of the Buldge in WWII. Gene was employed by Hess Brothers as a window dresser for 16 years and then for Western Electric for 18 years until retiring in 1987. Gene was a life member of the Macungie VFW, the Mercantile Club of Emmaus for over 70 years and the Liberty Fire Company #5 Allentown. He enjoyed traveling and loved his family.
Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol Ann (Milinchuk) Buchvalt; son Michael E. Fichter; grandsons Joseph, Steven and James Milinchuk and granddaughter Christina Fichter and three loving great grandsons Nicolai, Dashiell and Otto. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his infant son John, brother Cletus Covely, Charles, Joseph and Robert Fichter; sister Ada Riedy and his beloved companion Jean Hillegas.
