Gene was born November 27, 1930 in Wallingford, IA to Clarence Clifford Egeland and Susanna Hattie Herke Egeland.
Gene graduated from Estherville high school and Iowa State University, where he majored in Industrial Economics. He was a member of the Iowa State track team. He married Virginia “Ginny” Sue Larson on March 18, 1951 in Roland, IA. Gene and Ginny had three children: Gloria, Robert, and Bradley. After graduation, Gene took a job with Hy-Vee, Inc.
He is survived by his daughter Gloria (Richard) Peterson of McCook Lake, SD; son Robert (Juli) Egeland of Urbandale, IA; and son Bradley (Nancy) Egeland of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren David (Thuy) Koll and their children Jackson and Ella of Omaha, NE; Matthew (Heather) Koll and their children Alysa, Jaden, and Brooklyn of Sioux Falls, SD; Shelley (Dirk) Richou and their children Jacob and Kate of Jefferson, SD; Olivia “Libby” Egeland of Omaha, NE; Ben (Kallie) Egeland and their children Wes and Veyda of Omaha, NE; Robbie Egeland of Omaha, NE; Nathan Egeland of Urbandale, IA; Tyler Egeland of Iowa City, IA; Jordan, Trent, Julianna, Jack, Leah, Ryan, and Henry Egeland of Las Vegas, NV; and Caroline (Joshua) Holm of Las Vegas, NV; and Gene’s sister Evy (Roy) Stinson of Sun Valley, AZ. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Ginny, and his parents Clarence and Susie Egeland.
