Eugene Simpson Hughes, affectionately known as “Possum” was the son of the late Edward and Viola Hughes. He was born December 21, 1954 in Greensboro, NC. He departed this earthly life Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
Eugene was educated in the Guilford County School System and attended Western Guilford High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by ACI Systems for 20 years.
Eugene believed in living life on his own terms. He was quiet but also a hoot. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR fan. He also loved relaxing in the comfort of his home watching old western shows.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Viola Hughes, three brothers, Wilson Hughes, Joseph Hughes, and Sylvester Hughes; and sister, Lily Mae Hughes.
He leaves to cherish his memories daughter, Ashley Hughes; two brothers, John (Lucy) Hughes, David (Judy) Hughes; two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Marion Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
