Eugene (Gene) Lemme, 73, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 in Tucson, AZ.
He was born in Albany, New York on May 29, 1942; a birthday he shares with his twin brother, Bernie. As a young boy his family moved out West and settled in a small town called Rillito, Arizona. He attended Marana Public Schools where he was a stellar athlete excelling in track, basketball and football. It was in school where he met the love of his life, Gloria Acevedo.
They married in June 1962 and started a family having five children. After many years in Marana, the family moved to Silver City. Mr. Lemme worked many jobs including maintenance at Marana and Silver Schools, master cabinet maker for Lear Jet and retiring as a truck driver for the Tyrone Mine. He was a skilled mechanic, builder, carpenter and cook. Family and friends raved about his Italian food. He also enjoyed hunting, boating, and most of all fishing. He did not have any stories about the “one that got away” because he always caught the most and the biggest fish in the lakes all over New Mexico. One of his favorite places was Elephant Butte where he camped and fished with family and friends. Another passion was to watch his favorite sports teams: the Atlanta Braves, Notre Dame Football and above all the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mr. Lemme was a friend and mentor to all. He was loved by everyone who met him. He was always ready to start conversation with strangers, making new friends wherever he went. Some called him “uncle” others called him “tio”, for he leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Mr. Lemme is preceded in death by his oldest son, Gene Lemme, Jr., his brothers Joe, Bernie and Tommy Lemme, and sister Grace Anway.
He is survived by his devoted wife Gloria, his sister Betty Leppert; his children Marie Rouse and her husband Tom, Nicholas Lemme and his wife Joy, Catherine Ritter and her husband Ron, Tommy Lemme and his wife Brandi. Also, nine grandchildren Kasey Lemme, Kris Lemme, Jordan Lemme and his wife Amber, Tommy Lee Rouse, Ariana Garcia, Ryan Ritter, Rocco Ritter, Rex Ritter and Kylee Lemme and three great-grandchildren Mya, Jacob and Brooklyn Lemme.
