Eugene Edward Pitrof died on April 30, 2018 at the age of 82 in Easton, MD.  Gene was born on August 16, 1935 in Oconto, Wisconsin to Edward Frank Pitrof and Cecilia Mary Goebel.  Gene graduated from  Oconto High School in 1953 and then attended Marquette University receiving a B.S. in 1957 and a J.D. in 1959.  After his graduation from law school, he reported to Fort Belvoir to complete his ROTC commitment. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers and attained the rank of Second Lieutenant.  While stationed at Fort Belvoir, he met his first wife, the former LeClair Powers and eventually settled in Upper Marlboro, MD.

For a few years, Gene worked in Washington DC as an attorney  for the Federal Communications Commission and then decided to practice law in Prince George’s County as an Assistant States Attorney.   In 1962, he opened his own law firm and began in private practice.  Later, he joined into partnership with Thomas L. Starkey.  Pitrof and Starkey had offices in Upper Marlboro and Prince Frederick.

In 1979, he married Nancy Ward and moved to his farm in Huntingtown where they built a house, allowing him to finally live on the property he loved so much.

Gene prided himself on being a “Country Lawyer”.  He showed respect to everyone who came through his door and thoroughly enjoyed helping countless clients and friends with all kinds of legal issues, making a name for himself in condemnation cases, land use cases and criminal cases. He especially enjoyed representing the underdog in any case and worked tirelessly to give his clients everything he had.

He was a member of the Calvert County Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the Calvert County Farm Bureau, the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee and other associations, boards and clubs that are too numerous to mention.

He is survived by his four children: Eugenia Pitrof Newberg (Mark), Sasha Pitrof, Sunny Pitrof (Chris Lynch) and Alex Pitrof; five grandsons: Christopher Newberg, William Newberg, Jonah Lynch-Pitrof, James Lynch-Pitrof, and Levi Lynch-Pitrof; his brother Jim Pitrof (Mary) and their children and grandchildren; and numerous friends.
