Eugene E. “Berf” Gaskin, 58, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at his Greenwood home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan., to Charles and Betty Jo (Leonard) Gaskin. He lived in St. Louis and Georgia before his family moved to New Whiteland, where he went to Clark-Pleasant schools. He attended Whiteland Community High School, Class of 1975. He married Amy (Mull) Gaskin on June 8, 2005, in Franklin. They had one daughter, Mikayla, who survives.

Gene was a music aficionado and loved playing the guitar. He was also an avid sports fan who had a lifelong relationship with the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved the Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame football and Indiana University men’s basketball. Gene was quick-witted and loved a good joke, even if he was the butt of it. He was devoted to his family and worked tirelessly to support them. He was employed for the past 13 years at TLC Trucking in Indianapolis.

He is also survived by two adult children from a previous marriage, Matt (Amy) Gaskin of Fairland and Jennifer Gaskin of Franklin; a sister, Sheryl (Bobby) Crawford of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Christian VanWinkle, Anthony Wagner, Brandon Gaskin and GracLynn Oakes; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Charles Gaskin.
