Eugene “Butch” Davidsmeier, 91, of Virginia, IL passed away June 9, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

He was born August 1, 1925 in Cass County, the son of Louis and Louise Jones Davidsmeier.  He married Betty J. Bell on February 11, 1955 in Virginia and she survives.

He is also survived by two children, Daniel Davidsmeier (wife, Jo) of Petersburg and Janet Bentley (husband, Michael) of Virginia; a grandson, Adam Bentley of Virginia; two step grandsons, Jared Woodrum (wife, Ashley) and Jason Woodrum, all of Petersburg; three step great grandchildren, Chad Nimmo, Lane Woodrum and Kylah Woodrum, all of Petersburg; a sister, Betty Workman of Springfield; two half sisters, Linda Humphrey (husband, David) of Beardstown and Emily Ann Remster of Valparaiso, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl “Dick” Davidsmeier and Harold Davidsmeyer; and a sister, Donna Turner.

Butch worked for the J. E. Dour Garage, which later became D-Our Implement, a John Deere dealer, in Virginia.  He assumed a partnership in the dealership, serving in that capacity from 1944 – 1992.

He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and a long time member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge.  Butch was a dedicated member of the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years prior to retiring as Assistant Chief.  In his spare time, he enjoyed attending farm equipment auctions, antique tractor displays and farm thrashing events.
