Eugene A. “Gene” Brown, 101, of O’Fallon, Ill., born April 29, 1905 in St. Francisville, Ill., died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Covenant Care of O’Fallon, Ill. Mr. Brown was a lifetime member of 1st United Methodist Church in O’Fallon, Ill., oldest living past master of the O’Fallon Masonic Lodge #576 AF & AM, member of the Order of the Eastern Star #487, O’Fallon Senior Citizens the Barber Union and was an avid hunter of Morel Mushrooms with his dog. When Gene Graduated from O’Fallon Township High School in 1925 he joined his father’s barber shop and was the owner when it burned in the 1953 downtown fire. He then moved into Beckman’s barber shop for 2 ½ years, then to the old Wood’s Confectionery location at the corner of South Lincoln and East Second until he retired from the shop in 1973 and moved his barber chairs to his home on East State Street where he continued to cut the hair of his long time customers for another twelve years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burton & Emma (nee Wilhite) Brown, wife, Mildred M.(nee Creed), Brown, 2 brothers, Dr. Wendell Brown and Ralph Brown, 1 sister, Abba Lurtz. Eugene is survived by his daughter, Lois & Philip Perschbacher of O’Fallon, Ill., 2 grandchildren, granddaughter Sue Dennert of O’Fallon, Ill., grandson Philip & Genine Perschbacher of Red Bud, Ill., and 3 great-grandchildren, Aaron & Crystall Perschbacher, Gina Perschbacher and Erica Dennart. 4 great- great-grandchildren Austin Pershbacher, Zachary, Calib and Sadie Dennert.
