Eugene “Gene” DiCarlo of Louisville, Colorado passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 24, 2016.
Gene was born January 10, 1930 in Steubenville, Ohio to Pasquale and Donata DiCarlo. He graduated from Steubenville High School in 1947. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base when he came to Louisville to look up friends of his mother from her small village in Italy. This is when he met his wife Palmena “Pal” Ferrera who he married on December 1, 1951.
Gene worked at Rocky Flats as a Radiation Monitor Specialist Supervisor for 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was very active in the Louisville community where he served on city council and the planning commission. He served 20 years as a Louisville Volunteer Firefighter and 17 years on the Louisville Fire Protection District Board of Directors. He was a volunteer coach for little league baseball and American Legion Baseball teams. He was a member of St. Louis Parish, Society of Italian Americans, Tri-City Elks Lodge #2541, American Legion Post 111 and the Louisville Rod & Gun Club.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Palmena, his parents Pasquale and Donata, his in-laws Onorio and Lucia Ferrera and his son-in-law Billy Elrod. He is survived by his children Gene Allan (Vickie), Paula Elrod, Karen, Dino (Leslie), his grandchildren Breeann (Ronson), Dino (Breanna “Bre”), Derek, step-grandson Josh Talbitzer, his great-grandchildren Layla, Dayton, Drake, happily awaiting the birth of his second great-granddaughter and his sister Rosie Gilbert (Jim).
