Mrs. Ethel Wilkerson Swope “affectionately known as “Taceye” was born on January 16, 1936, to the union of the late Andrew Sr. and Johnnie Mae Cooper-Wilkerson, in Decatur, AL. Mrs. Ethel departed this life on December 11, 2020 at North Alabama Specialty Hospital in Athens, AL.

Mrs. Ethel was baptized in the name of Jesus under the late Elder Gus Hogan at Apostolic Church of God.  In her latter years she attended Calvary Assembly where George Sawyer is the pastor, until her health failed.

Mrs. Ethel will be remembered for her love of singing, her friendliness of never meeting a stranger, and her acts of kindness to anyone she encountered.

She was employed and retired from Decatur General Hospital and served as a foster grandparent in the Decatur City School System through Community Action.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Swope; brother, Andrew Wilkerson Jr.; five sisters, Mary Jefferson, Annie Townsend, Grace Holden, her twin, Esther Wilkerson, Louella Stewart, and Barbara Carlisle; two brothers-in-law, Peter Stewart and Thomas Carlisle.

Mrs. Ethel “Taceye” leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Samuel Lee Wilkerson, Decatur; a special daughter figure, Cherry J. McDonald, Double Springs, AL; one sister, Billie Dean (Jerry) Stewart, Decatur; four grandchildren, Carlos (Cassandra) McDonald,  Decatur; Michael E. McDonald, Haverhill, MA; Kristina McDonald,  Decatur; Terrie (Henry) Robinson Jr., Decatur; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Reshod, Benika, Mya, Olandis, Delandis, and Amarion, one great-great grandchild, Kyrin Bates; five nieces, Joyce Ann Burrell, Carolyn (Willie) Baker, Linda Fitts, Monique (Darrick) Johnson, Carolyn Carlisle; two nephews, Duane (Shereese) Carlisle, Johnny Carlisle; a lifetime friend, Laura Lyle; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
