Life began for Ethel Mary (Mae) Stevenson on July 22, 1925. She was born in Decatur, Alabama (Cedar Lake Community) to the late Susie Wright and the late Nelson Stevenson.
Ms. Ethel Stevenson confessed hope in Christ at an early age, and joined the Lipcombs Chapel C.M.E. Church which was later named New Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church. Mother Stevenson was a dedicated member until her health began to limit her. Ms. Stevenson retired from Decatur General Hospital after twenty-seven years of service.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mattie Wright and Sarah L. Matthews, both of Decatur, AL, and Annie Pearl Wright of Louisville, KY; two brothers, James W. Wright
And Thomas Wright of Decatur, AL (Cedar Lake), and a granddaughter, Pamela Holden of Chicago, IL.
Ethel Stevenson leaves behind to cherish her memory three loving children: two sons, Ollice C. Holden (Alice) of Atlanta, GA and Jonathan L. Stevenson (Elke) of Bruecken, Germany, one daughter, Clara L. Byrd of Decatur; one grandson, Demetrius Stevenson (Kelly) of Decatur; seven granddaughters, Monica Holden of Chicago, IL, Ronnissa Stevenson, Lathisha Alexander (Howard), Latora Stevenson of Decatur, Ebonie Garcia (Anthony) of Ft. Bragg, NC, Marjorie Stevenson of Bruecken, Germany and Mandy McHugh (Jake) of Monterey, CA; twenty great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She lived to see five generations in her family.
